BangorHousing administers approximately 500 HCV vouchers in Bangor and the surrounding towns of Hermon, Hampden, Glenburn, and Veazie. The voucher program allows participants to choose where they live through the area served. Rent is broken down into two segments, the tenant portion and the BangorHousing portion. The tenant portion is 30% of adjusted monthly income and paid to the landlord directly from the tenant. The BangorHousing portion is the difference between the tenant portion and the Payment Standard and that amount is sent directly to the landlord. Currently, we work with over 150 private landlords that participate in the program.

If you choose to use Affordable Housing, you will need to make an account. From there you will be able to apply for Section 8, check the status, and make any changes to your application.

BangorHousing has two preferences for how people are pulled from the waitlist to receive a Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher. BangorHousing will select families for participation based on residency (the applicant must live or work in our jurisdiction: Bangor, Hermon, Hampden, Glenburn and Veazie) and the date and time of the application, as well as, single persons who are age 62 or older. This means that those single persons 62 or older in our jurisdiction have now gone to the top of the list, listed by date and time of their application. After those applications, the list is compiled of all the other applicants that live or work in our jurisdiction, listed by date and time of their application.
