Planning & Zoning

Planning & Zoning is comprised of five divisions and the Office of Community Development and the Office of Economic Development.

The City of Annapolis recently adopted the 2020 Edition of the National Electrical Code (NEC) with local amendments. This code will be enforced beginning March 1, 2024.

The Historic Preservation Division has primary responsibility for all departmental activities within and pertaining to Annapolis' Historic District.

Responsibilities

The Department of Planning and Zoning is responsible for all development review, permitting, inspections, and licensing relating to all facets of City Code. This includes construction, rental housing, zoning, Critical Area compliance, and construction trades. The Department is also responsible for long-range planning, historic preservation, economic development, and community development activities within the City.
